Who we are

Urgent Action Fund-Africa (UAF-Africa) is a consciously pan- African and women’s human rights Fund, registeredin Kenya and Zimbabwe. Operating as a virtual organisation, the Fund boasts of strategic presence in Africa’s foursub-regions- North Africa: Egypt- Cairo; East Africa: Nairobi- Kenya, Kampala-Uganda; Southern Africa: Harare- Zimbabwe, Lilongwe- Malawi, Antananarivo- Madagascar, Johannesburg, Pretoria & Cape Town- South Africa, Gaborone-Botswana; and Central Africa: Yaoundé & Douala – Cameroon. Recognising the need to move resources rapidly on a continent where opportunities and threats arise and decline quickly, UAF-Africa uses a Rapid Response Grant making mechanism to support unanticipated, time-sensitive, innovative, and unique initiatives that promote women’s agency in democratic governance, economic, environmental and climate justice, natural resources governance and conflict transformation while protecting their personhood, integrity, and rights.

  1. Background

UAF-Africa seeks to engage a qualified, experienced Africa-based graphic designer and illustrator to support theFund’s communications, advocacy, and knowledge-production work.

As part of its commitment to amplifying movements’ narratives and strengthening visual storytelling, UAF-Africa requires creative professionals who can translate complex ideas into compelling, accessible, and culturally grounded visual outputs across multiple platforms

  • Objective of the Assignment

The objective of this consultancy is to engage a graphic designer and illustrator to support UAF-Africa in producing high-quality visual materials that enhance communication, visibility, and engagement across its programmes, campaigns, and initiatives.

  • Scope of Work

The selected consultants will be expected to provide services, including, but not limited to:

  • Conceptualising and developing creative design solutions aligned with UAF-Africa’s mission, brand and values.
    • Designing communication and advocacy materials such as:
      • Reports, publications, and policy briefs
      • Social media content and digital campaigns
      • Event branding and collateral
      • Infographics and visual storytelling assets
    • Producing original illustrations that reflect feminist, social justice, and movement-based themes
    • Adapting designs across multiple formats (digital and print)
    • Collaborating with internal teams to refine concepts and outputs
    • Delivering high-quality outputs within agreed timelines
  • Deliverables

Specific deliverables will be defined per assignment, but may include:

  • Designed publications (reports, briefs, toolkits)
    • Campaign visual assets (digital and print)
    • Branded event materials
    • Illustrations and visual narratives
    • Infographics and data visualisations
  • Duration and Level of effort

This is a framework engagement. The successful applicant will be included in a roster of consultants andcontracted on a project-by-project basis depending on organisational needs.

  • Qualifications

Interested applicants should demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in graphic design and/or illustration
    • A strong portfolio showcasing previous relevant work
    • Proficiency in design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent tools)
    • Experience in designing for digital and print platforms
  • Strong understanding of social justice, or development contexts (preferred)
    • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
    • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work.
    • Experience working with women’s rights organisations is an added advantage.
